Crossing Time

Of nearly 80 ferries that were in operation by the 1920s in Alberta, only six remain today. The people who live near the ferries are still dependent of them for travel and also for working the land. The ferries are part of the landscape as a reminder of the province’s unique history and it’s early pioneers and settlers. They give perspective on the efforts, large or small, it took to cross these rivers, to tame that land.
